A Family Tradition Since the 1940s
At the heart of Yolli is a long-standing family passion for confectionery. Our story begins in post-war Britain…

1940s – Where it all began

After serving in the war, Eddie Loynds returned to Blackpool and began work as a pan man, boiling candy at Waller & Hartley — a respected local sweet manufacturer.

1950s – Mastering the craft

Eddie worked his way up to master confectioner and later managed Hornby Confectionery, where he met his future business partner, Mossie Parker. Together with Albert Gubay (who went on to found Kwik Save), they launched The Ashton Candy Company.

Using traditional methods still in use today, they hand-pulled sugar mixtures to create rock with lettering and intricate designs — made by pouring a suitcase-sized blob of hot sugar onto cooling tables and shaping it by hand.

1960s – A family affair

Eddie’s sons Doug and John Loynds entered the trade under their father’s guidance. When Waller & Hartley sold to Barker & Dobson and shut down their rock department, Eddie and Mossie stepped in — taking on many of the lettered rock customers and growing the business even further.

1970s – Sweet records

Ashton Candy created the world’s largest bar of rock — a 153kg giant, 7ft long and 15 inches in diameter — which was auctioned by the Duke of Edinburgh for charity. Doug and John both founded their own confectionery businesses during this period: Fylde Coast Confectionery and Jaydee Candies.

Later, Doug broke his father’s record with a 9’2” candy monster weighing 255kg. Though the record has since been surpassed, the Loynds family made their mark.

1980s – Expanding horizons

John Loynds joined Vimto Confectionery in 1989, helping scale their candy production from 5,000kg to 40,000kg a week in under a year. When the unit closed, John purchased the equipment, reconditioned it, and began supplying other confectioners — blending his engineering background with confectionery expertise.

This was the start of Loynds International — a business dedicated to the manufacture and supply of candy machinery.

1990s – Going global

Loynds Agencies (as it was then known) began exporting candy machinery across the world. With growing demand, new premises were acquired, and full workshop facilities were added. The company soon rebranded as Loynds International Limited, reflecting its global reach.

2000s – Full production solutions

Karen Loynds joined the company, and the team grew. Loynds International began offering everything from individual machines to full production lines for chocolate and candy manufacturing, complete with on-site setup and training.

2010s – Introducing Yolli

A new generation stepped in as Richard Loynds joined the family business and launched Yolli — a brand focused on supplying confectionery supplies and consumables online. What started as Loypack Ltd soon evolved into Yolli Ltd, specialising in:

Lollipop sticks (paper, wood, and plastic)

Food-safe printed and unprinted bags

Custom packaging for sweets and chocolates

In 2011, Sophie joined to lead customer service, and together the couple grew Yolli into a trusted supplier for both artisan makers and global manufacturers.

Today, we operate from a 23,000 sq. ft. facility in Lancashire with dedicated space for engineering, manufacturing, and fulfilment.

2020s – Innovation & sustainability

As demand for environmentally conscious products grew, so did we. We’ve invested in:

Short-run printing for custom-printed sideweld bags

Paper lollipop stick manufacturing equipment, reducing reliance on plastic and helping our customers meet their sustainability goals

We continue to focus on what we do best — designing, manufacturing, and supplying products and machinery for the confectionery and food packaging industries.

From sugar and rock to global supply
Three generations later, the Loynds name is still proudly associated with innovation, reliability, and family values. Whether you’re a small artisan brand or a global candy manufacturer, we’re here to help.

Yolli — We’ve got confectionery all wrapped up.
