Ideal for a sweet sixteen
- Disco, mirror-ball and sequin-backdrop sixteenths, where the whole table is built around reflection
- Edible-glitter and lustre-dusted cakesicles — the matte birch is the one surface that is not shining, which is what stops the photograph blowing out
- Silver, white and iridescent palettes, where a printed tag would compete with the finish
- Evening parties lit with fairy lights or a light-up number, where a flash bounces off foil and acrylic but not off wood
- Cake makers offering a glitter finish who need a stick that survives being dusted and handled
Frequently asked questions
How many sticks do I need for a sweet sixteen party?
One stick per cakesicle or lolly, and one treat per guest is the usual allowance. A sixteenth with 25 guests therefore needs 25 sticks, so a pack of 50 covers it with spares for a practice batch. If the sticks are also going into cake pops or dipped strawberries, count those separately.
Will edible glitter or lustre dust stick to the engraving?
The lettering is cut into the wood rather than printed on it, so a light dusting settles into the grooves and often makes the wording read more clearly. If you would rather keep it clean, dust the chocolate before inserting the stick, or hold the stick end while you work.
What size stick is best for cakesicles?
Both 93×10×2mm and 114×10×2mm fit the standard UK cakesicle moulds. 93mm is the usual choice and sits neatly in the mould; 114mm gives you more stick to hold, which suits deeper moulds and larger cakesicles. The 200×24×2mm paddle is for oversized, statement pieces — it will not fit a standard mould.
Can the sticks go in the freezer?
Yes. Birch handles freezing without splintering, which is why it is the standard for ice lollies. Freeze the finished lolly with the stick in place as normal — the engraving is cut into the wood, not printed on, so it will not lift or fade at low temperatures.
Will the engraving affect the taste?
No. The lettering is laser-etched into the surface of the wood — no inks, dyes or coatings are used at any stage, so there is nothing to transfer into the food. The sticks are food-grade and safe for direct contact with chocolate, ice cream and set sugar.
Can I get a name or date on them instead?
Yes — our bespoke engraved sticks take any wording, including a name, age and date, with no minimum order. Useful if you want the guest of honour's name on the sticks rather than a stock saying.
Trade buyers can open a Trade Account and save up to 40% against retail prices. Ordering 100,000 or more? Hot stamping works out considerably cheaper at that volume.
Also needed: Cake Pop Bags, Clear Cello Bags and plain wooden ice lolly sticks.
