Frequently asked questions
How many sticks do I need for a 21st birthday party?
One stick per cakesicle or lolly, and one treat per guest is the usual allowance — so an 85-guest 21st comes out at a pack of 100, which leaves a few spares for breakages and tasting. If the sticks are also going into cake pops or dipped strawberries, count those separately. They are cheap enough per stick that it is worth ordering the next size up rather than running short mid-batch.
What size stick is best for cakesicles?
Both 93×10×2mm and 114×10×2mm fit the standard UK cakesicle moulds. 93mm is the usual choice and sits neatly in the mould; 114mm gives you more stick to hold, which suits deeper moulds and larger cakesicles. The 200×24×2mm paddle is for oversized, statement pieces — it will not fit a standard mould.
Can I use these on a drinks station rather than a dessert table?
Plenty of people do. "Cheers to 21" suits a bar setup, and a stick standing in a filled glass or laid across a coupe works as a garnish marker. Two things to keep in mind: the sticks are designed for frozen and set-chocolate treats, not for stirring hot or acidic drinks, and they should not be left standing in liquid for long periods. For a garnish that is handled and eaten within the hour, they are fine.
Can the sticks go in the freezer?
Yes. Birch handles freezing without splintering, which is why it is the standard for ice lollies. Freeze the finished lolly with the stick in place as normal — the engraving is cut into the wood, not printed on, so it will not lift or fade at low temperatures.
Will the engraving affect the taste?
No. The lettering is laser-etched into the surface of the wood — no inks, dyes or coatings are used at any stage, so there is nothing to transfer into the food. The sticks are food-grade and safe for direct contact with chocolate, ice cream and set sugar.
Can I get a name or date on them instead?
Yes — our bespoke engraved sticks take any wording, including a name, age and date, with no minimum order. Useful if you want the guest of honour's name on the sticks rather than a stock saying.
