Whether you're a Galaxy, Cadburys or Godiva girl, it's a pretty sure bet that you're a chocolate girl. After all, what else sorts out all of the ills in the world, and keeps you company in a horror film, wet weekend, or when you just need a (small, aherm) sugar rush. It's not just about the slab you munch through on an evening, or that box of chocolates from Thornton’s that you were saving for a special occasion. No, chocolate in one of its finest forms is the chocolate cake. You know the one, the gooey, freshly baked hunk of chocolate goodness that sits on the kitchen counter, in the window of your local bakery, or on a platter at an Afternoon Tea treat to yourself. So, what makes a chocolate cake great, and who is the queen of the chocolate cake recipes, so next time you feel like popping your pinny on and getting creative in the kitchen, you know which domestic goddess to turn to Well, for a start, there's the Domestic Goddess herself, Nigella Lawson. If she's not fondling a fork, or pouting at the camera, she's getting down in the kitchen producing top notch cake. Her simplest, and best recipe for getting started is, without a doubt, the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake. There's pics to make your mouth water and decoration ideas here  Old fashioned cake nigella Of course it's not just Nigella who knows what she's doing in the kitchen. Delia Smith has been serving up cakes and treats to get you whipping that whisk like there's no tomorrow, for years. Her chocolate fudge cake, made, unusually with wholemeal flour is a slightly healthier (I use that term lightly) version of a classic chocolate cake. With a chocolate fudge filling this is sticky, sweet gooey-ness at its finest, oh and it goes great with a dollop of old fashioned ice-cream.  choc-fudge-cake-new-25503 There is, however, one queen of chocolate cakes, the lovely Mary Berry, goddess supreme of all things British and baking. The ultimate chocolate cake à la Mary comes in the form of her sticky icing chocolate cake. Filled with jam - it doesn't have to be apricot - strawberry works wonderfully - and oozing with gouache chocolate filling and heavy on the cocoa for the cake itself, this is the last word in chocolate cake heaven. Problem is... do you share, or keep it all to yourself?  BBC Food Website (19th March 2012)
